Why Won't My Vegetables Grow? 4 Mistakes You Could Be Making

Stick it in the ground, water it and it grows, right? I wish it were that easy but it isn’t. You’ll often find that you think you’ve done everything right but those seeds just won’t grow. In some cases you just get unlucky but most of the time, it’s probably because you’re making a mistake somewhere along the line. These are the most common reasons that your garden isn’t growing.

You’ve Planted In The Wrong Place

Where you choose to grow your food is vital. If you don’t have enough space for each plant they won’t grow properly. You also need to make sure that they’ve got enough sun to feed them, but not too much because that can kill some plants. There is no right answer when it comes to finding a good place to plant your garden because different varieties have different needs. The key is to make sure that you do a bit of research into the plants before you put them in and work out where the best place for them is.

Pests

When you’ve grown some delicious vegetables you surely can’t be surprised when some pests come and have a bit of them. Pests can completely destroy a plant in no time at all but there is a simple way around it. You can buy pesticides or greenhouse fumigator that will clear them out in no time. Slugs are another one to watch out for because they’re especially damaging to plants. Get some slug pellets and create a border around any plants, make sure you use a good amount because they’re very persistent.

Overwatering

Not watering your plants enough is going to kill them, everybody knows that. That’s why so many novice gardeners end up going overboard, but that’s just as bad. Overwatering leads to rotting in the roots which stops the plant from absorbing any nutrients and it will slowly die. Some plants need a lot of water whereas some just need a little. Make sure to look at the guidelines and follow them strictly. If you’ve got a plant that doesn’t need too much water, try to plant it somewhere where it will be sheltered from the rain, that way you can control the water level more easily and make sure that you don’t end up overwatering it.

Not Controlling Weeds

One of the biggest mistakes that people make is thinking that the only problem with weeds is that they look bad. They don’t bother taking them out because they aren’t fussed about how they look, but they do a lot more damage than you realize. When you’ve got weeds near your plants they’re taking some of those valuable nutrients from the soil. Weeds grow way quicker than your other plants so they’ll soon take over and suck up everything from the soil, leaving your plants with nothing. Without anything to eat, they’ll soon start to die. As soon as you see any weeds appearing, get rid of them right away. Don’t let it get out of hand.

Fix these mistakes and your garden should flourish in no time.
