Simple Home Crafts You Wish You'd Thought Of Sooner

Simple Home Crafts You Wish You'd Thought Of Sooner

Do you spend a lot of time day dreaming about your perfect home? Maybe you have a Pinterest board you readily admit you spend way too much time gazing at, or perhaps you are constantly trying to work out if your monthly budget can stretch to that next big home remodel.

But what a lot of us don't realise is that we don't need bags of time and thousands of pounds to add a little bit of extra sparkle to our homes. In fact, all you often need is a couple of hours on a Sunday afternoon, your craft box and a little bit of good old fashioned imagination! You might be nervous about taking on any DIYs, but you don't need to be a qualified decorator, plumber or architect to be able to easily make some small changes to your home. Here are just a few of the best DIY projects you can easily turn your hand to if you have a few spare hours this weekend.

Quirky shelving ideas Need somewhere new to store your books and trinkets? A bookshelf is the usual port of call, but why just go with the same boring design? There are plenty of innovative ways to set up new shelving in your home that doesn't require simply shoving an old-fashioned bookshelf in the corner. Collect reclaimed planks of wood and attached them to your wall with screws at various jaunty angles for some great 'shabby chic' shelves.

ou can also attach upside down bookends to your walls as a great way to hold three or four books at once. Ladders are also a great way to make new shelves units - simple pair two sets together and lay wooden boards across the steps for a great industrial look. Glue gun crafts Having one failsafe piece of kit is often all it takes to be able to create some unique items for your home. Nine times out of ten, a hot glue gun is all you need for the majority of decorative home crafts! Get hold of one from a company such as Glue Guns Direct and then let your imagination run wild. You can make coasters by sticking rope cord in a pattern onto a piece of card, or you can make decorative signs by writing a word with the gun and then painting the glue once it's dried.

Amazing mason jar lights Is your regular lighting just not cutting it for you anymore? If you want to create a relaxing ambiance without having to resort to millions of candles (fire hazard alert!) or stealing your child's night light (not exactly fair), create some pretty lights out of old mason jars. The only other things you need is a glow stick and some glitter. Break the glowstick in two and empty the fluid straight into your mason jar, then deposit the glitter into it too. The fluorescent fluid will light up with the glitter, making a beautiful ethereal light that cost you next to nothing to create.
