Home renovations can be as simple as a lick of paint and as complex as an extension on the house. Extensions come in every shape and size and can either extend a room or multiple stories. Type
Do you want a conservatory, a bigger kitchen, an extra bedroom? The list is enormous but is ultimately decided by the amount of space you have. You might not be able to extend the second story, but you could extend the first - or you might need to build a room over the garage rather than at the back of the house. Or you might need to consider converting your garage or loft rather than adding a whole new structure.
Planning Permission
Once you have decided on what you would like, you need to get permission to go ahead and do it. Even conversions require planning permission. This is because all buildings have to comply with specific health and safety regulations if you convert the loft you need to know that you can safely evacuate in case of a fire. And with a garage, you will want to make sure that it is properly sealed with a waterproofing mortar. Planning permission will take into account your neighbors too; they don’t have a say if the extension will block their view, but the consent can be hindered if it blocks the necessary light their house is entitled to.
The Right People
When erecting your new extension get the right people for the job involved. Handing over something as important your home to an amateur isn’t a great idea. There are so many vital parts of building an extension that shouldn’t be DIY’d; the structural integrity of the whole building, the electrics and wiring, plumbing and insulation. Make sure you find the right people to contract to finish the job.
Making It Homely
If you’ve been living in your house for a while, it can be weird suddenly having a whole new room. The key to making it homely straight away is to link it in with the rest of the house. If the extension is following off from the living room, then try and incorporate the same colours into your new extension. If you’ve created a new bedroom, then get using it as soon as possible.
