House To Home: Settling In To a New Place After Moving

Moving house is a new chapter, the perfect opportunity to start fresh. There’s nothing more exciting than a blank canvas, a home waiting for you to add your own personal touches to. However, that’s not to say that moving is all sunshine and rainbows. In fact, it’s one of the most stressful experiences we can go through in our lives. Along with the legalities of buying, selling or renting a house, changing bills over and moving your life from A to B, you then have to sort everything out again at the other end. But regardless of the journey you have ahead of you, you’ll want to feel settled and comfortable in your new place as quickly as possible. Here’s what you can do to make yourself comfortable among the chaos and get settled as soon as possible.

Clean

Your new property should have been left in a clean and tidy condition, however, you will probably still want to go over everything yourself. That way you know everywhere is safe and up to your standards. Ideally, try and have a clean before your official moving day, it’s easier to get done when you’re not dodging around boxes. Give all of the surfaces a wipe down with disinfectant and clean toilets and sinks. You’ll need to clean again once everything is in, but at least you’ll be happy to use the toilets and bathroom in the meantime. Open the windows and give it an air out, you could even plug in some air fresheners and light some candles too. This helps to bring your own personal home scent in and can make you feel far more at home from the get-go.

Unpack

After a busy day of moving boxes from vans or mobile storage crates, it’s tempting to just skip the unpacking. But getting at least the essentials out as soon as possible helps to bring some order to the home. You could pack a couple of boxes that are absolute essentials such as cutlery, crockery, towels, tea towels, electronics. The sort of things you’ll need pretty much right away. This saves you from having to dig through boxes and mess everything up to find what you need. The entire process of unpacking and getting set up in the new home

Make Up The Beds

The first night in a new house can be a bit unsettling for all the family, an unfamiliar room and with all of the stress of the day can mean you don’t get the best night’s sleep. One way to make things more cozy and comforting is to make up the bed with fresh bedding and get the room feeling as homely as possible. If you wash and pack this separately, again it will be easier to sort instead of rummaging through things. Have the box clearly labeled, so it’s easy to find it after a long day.
