Don’t Play I Spy with DIY: Home Improvement Jobs That Should Not be Played Around with

Human beings are curious creatures, and this ultimately means that we end up doing things we know we shouldn’t. When it comes to DIY, most jobs are best left to the professionals because if you don’t then you run the risk of A) burning the house down, B) having to explain a big mess or C) calling a professional anyway after hours of deliberation. Below you’ll find some of the top jobs that you should avoid tinkering with at all cost because it doesn’t matter how handy you are, they really do require the input of a professional.

Hardwood Floor Surfacing

Hardwood floors are lovely and they really do add character to a home. If your hardwood floors are worn out from years of use then you may be able to salvage them by sanding them down, resurfacing them or even refinishing them. This sounds easy, but along the way, you’ll be dealing with irregular sanding patterns, nail heads, dust and a lot of mess. Your knees will probably be aching by the time you’ve done three or four planks and the whole thing will quickly become one of the biggest regrets of your life. If you want to avoid this, swallow your pride and hire a professional to do it for you. After all, it’s not worth compromising the overall appearance of your home just so you can save a few bob.

Electricity and Live Wires

The last thing you need is to end up looking like the Bride of Frankenstein because you connected the earth cable to the live connection. Sure, in the movies that’s how people get superpowers, but when it comes to your own home, it’s how you end up with a fried circuit and a lot of explaining to do. If you want to make sure that your electrics are done properly then hire someone who actually knows what they are doing. If you are a curious soul and you can’t help but try and do it yourself then have a professional or even someone who works in electrical services to look over the job for you after, so you don’t come back from work to find your home smelling like an Australian BBQ.

Tree Chopping

One of the many reasons why you should hire a professional is because of the sheer danger that most DIY jobs pose. Tree cutting is quite possibly one of the most dangerous jobs you could ever hope to try and do yourself. That will probably motivate you into trying to do it yourself anyway, but you really shouldn’t. After all, having a few tons of lumbar fall to the ground is enough to cause damage to just about everything around it and you also run the risk of running into problems with the electrics that are around the tree as well. This includes your phone line and anything else that is lying around.

So these jobs are all best left to the professionals, for your own safety of course!
